Setting up People Counting using Standard Headcount

As part of its standard setup, each DCM camera will record headcount in the defined area of interest.  By default, each camera will display headcount for that camera only.

However, headcount data for multiple cameras can be combined to get a total attendance figure for your venue or event.

This can be configured as either a capacity report or as a real time composite Dashboard.

Capacity Reports vs Composite Dashboard

Deciding which of these options to choose depends on your requirements.

In general, if your aim is to monitor venue capacity over a longer time frame, especially comparing attendance patterns between days or events, then an on demand Capacity Report will likely suit your needs best.

If however, you wish to monitor current attendance in real time,  perhaps in a control room, with the intent to take immediate action if attendance in an area breaches a certain capacity level – then a Composite dashboard may suit you better.  Setting up both is also possible.

Both versions have the option to compensate for situations where your current set of cameras does not have 100% coverage of your space.

Capacity Reports have more flexibility in how they are set up and how the data is displayed over time.  They also have the advantage that they can be set up by the end user from scratch.
Their main disadvantage, is they require the user to actively run a report, and take up to an hour for latest data to be available – so are not suited for fast, real time monitoring.

Using a capacity report is similar  for the end user, whether you are using combined headcount or line crossing data as your source.  Capacity Reports using default headcount data are in table form only.
